Peer-facilitated support groups are a wonderful place to start your recovery journey as you hear others’ stories and begin to open the door to your own healing and recovery. You’re not alone. \nWhen? Starting on February 7th from 7:00-8:30 pm.\nMeetings will take place on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.\nWhere? Mental Health America\, 245 Butler Ave\, Suite 204\, Lancaster PA 17601\n  \nWhat to Expect\n● Peer Facilitated\n● Free\n● Drop-in\n● Confidential\n● At Your Own Pace \nMHALC’s programs are peer-facilitated\, which means the group leader has been in your shoes and can share from lived experience as well as provide insights and advice based on firsthand experience. All groups are free and held on a drop-in basis. You don’t have to sign up in advance. SUMMARY:Domestic Abuse & Suicide SPC Monthly Educational Talk
DESCRIPTION:The Suicide Prevention Coalition (SPC) talk will provide education around Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)\, its connection to suicide\, and some tools to offer support to those in this type of challenging situation. IPV can have a traumatizing impact on those involved and suicidal thoughts\, depression\, and anxiety can all be byproducts of such experiences\, so we are here to support you. \nWhen? February 10th\, 2022 from 7:00-8:30pm.\nWhere? Virtually on Zoom platform\, for your convenience and safety.\nWhat to Expect\n● Peer Facilitated\n● Free\n● Education\n● Specific Resources\n● Q&A Time \nWho is speaking?\nLois Walters is a mental health and addictions nurse/counselor\, and college-level educator with over 38 years of experience. She holds two master’s degrees: one in nursing and one in human services. She also completed Eastern Mennonite University’s Parish Nurse Program (also known as Faith Community Nursing). In 2005\, Lois started a local faith-based widow’s support group which continues to this day. She teaches CPR and First Aid in the community. Additionally\, Lois volunteers for MHA teaching QPR (Question\, Persuade\, and Refer)\, a community-based suicide prevention program. \nMore about SPC Talks\nThese free educational talks will be given monthly related to various populations who may experience suicidal thoughts\, attempts\, or the loss of loved ones to suicide. Our goal is to better equip you to face specific challenges that may lead to suicidal thoughts. Our hope is that you find comfort in the words of those who have lived experience and gain education and resources to help you get\nconnected to the support you need. \nFor more information\, please email Kay Bela at kbela@mhalancaster.org\, call 717-397-7261\, or visit https://mhalancaster.org/event/monthly-educational-spc-talk-abuse-and-suicide/
