SUMMARY:3rd Annual Suicide Prevention Alliance Conference
DESCRIPTION:Suicide Prevention Alliance will host our 3rd Annual Suicide Prevention Conference on August 5-7\, 2025\, at the Best Western Premier/The Central Hotel & Conference Center\, in Harrisburg\, PA. Our Conference is designed to meet the diverse interests and needs of attendees (mental health professionals\, those impacted by suicide (Attempt/Loss Survivors)\, teachers\, LGTBQIA+\, Veterans\, etc.\, while creating a powerful opportunity for networking and learning\, and developing powerful techniques to prevent suicide in the community. \n  \nThis year’s theme will be “What Are We Missing in Suicide Prevention” \nOur Keynote Presenter is Sally Spencer-Thomas.  Sally is an internationally-recognized leader and in-demand speaker on topics of resilience\, mental health and suicide prevention.  Sally Spencer-Thomas sees issues of suicide prevention and mental health promotion from a host of perspectives. Clinical psychologist. Mental health advocate\, Faculty member\, Researcher\, and suicide loss survivor.  Sally inspires\, educates\, and successfully challenges leaders to develop caring cultures that help people thrive.  She uses the power of stories\, science and humor (just enough!) to engage her audiences and inspire a passion for saving lives and promoting wellbeing.  Sally helped establish many large-scale\, gap-filling mental health efforts\, including Man Therapy (www.ManTherapy.org) and the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention.  She has held leadership roles with the International Association of Suicide Prevention\, the American Association of Suicidology\, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline\, United Suicide Survivors International\, and the Carson J Spencer Foundation. In 2016\, she was invited to speak at the White House on men’s mental health. \nOur Conference will also contain LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Training by Frank Campbell\, Ph.D. LCSW\, CT.\, on August 7th.  Dr. Campbell is the Executive Director Emeritus of the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center\, where he serves as the Founder of the National Suicidology Training Center (NSTC) and serves on the faculty there.  During his more than thirty years of working with those bereaved by suicide\, he introduced his Active Postvention Model (APM) in 1997 – it is most commonly known as the LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors).  His work with survivors and victims of trauma has been featured in three discovery channel documentaries\, professional journals\, and book chapters. He is a past-president of the American Association of Suicidology and a recipient of both national and international awards for his contributions to the field of Suicidology.  Dr. Campbell is also an Army veteran and is most proud to have been a consultant and contributor to the TAPS program for military family members who attend the survivor seminars and National programs for fifteen years. \n  \nMore information to come! \n

SUMMARY:Venango County 8th Annual Shine a Light on Suicide Night Kayak
DESCRIPTION:The Venango County Suicide Prevention Task Force will be holding their 8th Annual Shine a Light on Suicide Night Kayak; Saturday August 23rd\, 2025.     This free event is held at Two Mile Run County Park and is to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding the topics of mental health and suicide.  Participants decorate their kayaks and float on the lake.  Opportunities to engage with Venango County service providers are also available.  We have hired a DJ for this year and are planning to have more games and activities for the younger participants who attend.  Door prizes\, giveaways\, and light refreshments are also provided.  Colored beads will be available again to those in attendance and the different colors represent various topics such as those who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide\, those who may be struggling themselves\, etc.  If you have questions about the event\, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 814-432-9120. \n
