QPR (Question Persuade Refer ) Gatekeeper Training

QPR Gatekeeper Training is a 2-hour evidence-based program designed to teach laypeople and professionals to recognize suicide warning signs and intervene using three steps: Question (intent), Persuade (to seek help), and Refer (to resources). Similar to CPR, it provides a “citizen emergency response” to someone in crisis.  This training is FREE!

  • Warning Signs: Identification of verbal, behavioral, and situational cues indicating a person may be considering suicide.
  • The QPR Method:
    • Question: How to directly ask about suicidal thoughts or intent.
    • Persuade: How to listen, offer hope, and convince the individual to accept help.
    • Refer: How to connect the person with local, professional resources.
  • Myths and Facts: Correcting common misconceptions about suicide.
  • Actionability: Techniques for suicide prevention that focus on means reduction and reducing psychological pain.
