Inaugural Suicide Prevention Alliance Conference

August 8, 2023 @ 8:30 am - August 9, 2023 @ 4:00 pm

Suicide Prevention Alliance will be hosting our inaugural suicide prevention Conference on August 8-9, 2023, at the Best Western Premier/The Central Hotel & Conference Center, in Harrisburg, PA. Our Conference is designed to meet the diverse interests and needs of attendees (mental health professionals, those impacted by suicide (Attempt/Loss Survivors), teachers, LGTBQIA+, Veterans, etc., while creating a powerful opportunity for networking and learning, and developing powerful techniques to prevent suicide in the community.

Join Suicide Prevention Alliance as we welcome Congresswoman Susan Wild and David A. Jobes, Ph.D, ABPP, as our Keynote Speakers for our inaugural conference.

David Jobes, Ph.D., will be presenting “The Challenge and the Promise of Contemporary Suicidology: How to Assess and Treat Suicidal Risk Using a Commonsense Approach”. Clinical suicidology focuses on the assessment and treatment of suicidal risk in patients, with implications for training and risk management. Dr. David A. Jobes—an expert in clinical considerations for working with patients at risk for suicide—emphasizes a commonsense approach to informed consent, screening, assessment, management of suicidal crises, and the clinical treatment of suicide risk. He also discusses implications for decreasing exposure to malpractice liability through competent evidence-based care, use of professional consultation, and the critical role of documentation.

Congresswoman Susan Wild, PA 7th District was beyond devastated when she lost her partner/husband to suicide in May 2019.  This keynote presentation will focus on how Congresswoman Wild has channeled her grief by working on suicide prevention efforts and increasing access to mental health care and how positive public health messaging can prevent suicide.  She’s working on legislation to make mental health care more affordable and easier to obtain, with specific efforts geared toward groups that experience higher rates of suicide, like veterans and college students. She’s also focusing on family members dealing with the aftermath of a loved one’s suicide.

“NASW-PA Chapter is a co-sponsor of this workshop. 9.25 CEs will be awarded for completion of this course. NASW has been designated as a pre-approved provider of professional continuing education for social workers (Section 47.36), Marriage and Family Therapist (Section 48.36) and Professional Counselors (Section 49.36) by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.”
