Dr. Williametta Simmons Sonpon

Board Member

Dr. Williametta Simmons Sonpon is a Licensed Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. She obtained her Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Health Care Management (HCM) from Widener University. Dr. Simmons is the owner of Integrative Psychological & Consulting Services, LLC, located in Bala Cynwyd, PA. 

From January 2012-June 2022, Dr. Simmons served as the Lead Clinical Psychologist and Psychiatry Administrator at Temple Health System for a pilot program designed to transform the treatment of individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The program aimed to decrease inpatient length of stay, promote optimal health, and successfully transition individuals back into the community. As a result of the program’s success, it was replicated to various inpatient facilities throughout the United States. 

Dr. Simmons specializes in mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, schizophrenia, sexual and gender-based violence, and immigration issues. She has taught a variety of national and international seminars on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for schizophrenia, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Mood Disorders, Cultural Concepts of Distress and Evidenced-Informed Trauma Interventions. 

Dr. Simmons offers public education and expert analysis for numerous media outlets including, Essence Magazine Series, “I Am Speaking, Listen.”  the TVOne Series, “For My Man,” and United We Heal Film Festival and Media Productions. 

Dr. Simmons is one of the co-founders and Board Members of the Liberia Medical Mission, which offers free medical and mental health services to West African Countries (www.liberiamedicalmission.org). She is also a board member of Child Guidance Resource Centers and Suicide Prevention Alliance.

Dr. Simmons is the Past-President of the Pennsylvania Psychological Foundation, past board member for the Pennsylvania Psychological Association (PPA), and past Diversity Delegate for the American Psychological Association. 

Dr. Simmons is an Assistant Professor at Widener University Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology and an adjunct professor at Temple University School of Medicine (Department of Psychiatry) and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Pennsylvania Psychological Association (PPA).
